Drakolimni

Drakolimni, meaning Dragon Lake, is the name of several alpine or sub-alpine lakes in the mountain range of Pindus in Epirus region. Drakolimni in mountain Tymfi is the most widely known.

According to tradition, these lakes used to be inhabited by dragons who fought each other by throwing pines and rocks and thus created the peculiar landscape, giving their names to the lakes.

Drakolimni in mountain Tymphi resides at an altitude of 2050 m above sea level, in Vikos–Aoös National Park. At 5 hours walking distance from the village of Papingo, the lake is a popular destination.
